October 30 Last LectureOn Tuesday, September 18, 2007 a computer science professor named Randy Pausch, Ph.D, gave a lecture. Dr. Pausch is regarded as an expert teacher of video gamesand virtual reality technology. He helped develop the software used at Carnegie Mellon, a well-know Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania University, called Alice. It allows people to create 3-D animations. This is being used by students around the world. The lecture was titled, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams." Dr. Pausch's lecture was not the type that is normally given at Carnegie Mellon. Oftentimes at Carnegie Melon Professors are asked to give lectures about what matters to them and to give what is a fake final talk. Most of us ask ourselves what we would want our children to know if we were dying and may leave them a tape. Most of us ask ourselves what difference we made if not to the world at large then to our smaller world of family and friends. Most of us wonder what we would do if we knew we only had a few months to live. Dr. Pausch shared that unlike most of us he has achieved most of his dreams which include being in zero gravity, making video games, playing in the National Football League, and authoring an article in the World Book Encyclopedia. The Golden CompassApparently the movie The Golden Compass was written by an author who states "my books are about killing God". Doesn't seem like a great movie for young kids that do believe in God. My mom lead me to a book called "Your God is too small". Basically the smaller we make God the more we can defeat that image. anyways, make up your own mind on whether you agree or disagree with this author and his methods for sharing his point of view with children.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp October 29 It's been too long . . .I'm playing around with differsocial networks. So far I'm active on 3. It takes too much time but I'm willing to put in a better effort. My blogs may be shorter now as a side effect. August 11 Welcome Wakeam Baby!!So jamie and cheryl are pregnant. They stink because they live so far away and now we won't be able to see them as often as we'd like. I just needed to say that.
l8r. August 09 Bad Chicken has its revengeRob picked up Chinese food last night. Needless to say ... it decided to show back up this morning. I now regret being greedy and eating that last pot sticker. I must have made the Food Gods angry because their vengeance has stricken with the power of 1000 suns. August 07 Wireless on a plane?I've had 2 friends IM me from a plane. It'd be interesting if there was a P2P app for folks on a plane. 17 + hour flights are boring. I'd be up for meeting new people on plane with some ad-hoc matchup software.
AND ALSO CONGRATS BABY NEAL! Welcome to the world :)
-Jaime August 04 What? I've updated? My brain is basically fried. I can't think of one thing to write so I'll just ramble on a bit. I saw this new show on ABC Family (yes, I'm a victim of cheesy family entertainment) called Kyle XY. Basically he's a guy who has no memory of who he is or what he's doing here on Earth....next topic, I'm bored already. SO! I went to the Sci Fi Museaum with friends. I felt like I should have unveiled my robotic arm and talked with a lisp. But it was pretty neat anyways. I found out that the little robot on Buck Rogers was called Twiki (not Twinkie which I orginally thought...shut up.) Let's see what else...I started a book called Understanding Comics. I'm amazed at how much Comics are truely an art form. Easy read for you non-readers out there. I also have a comic book on Quantum Mechanics if anyone's interested...any takers?
Jaime - out like trout. April 30 It's been too longI need to update my blog space. It's been too long. I have a deadling on May 18th and after that I can update my site with all things Jaime. November 18 The beginning of the universe was when?So I just saw Dr. Steven Hawkings give a lecture. It was interesting. I found him to be a thoughtful, passionate, and funny. I'm not sure I agree with everything he said but I need to read more about his new findings before I state wheather I agree with him.
I guess the thing that really stuck with me was why we care so much about when and how we began. Shouldn't we be more worried about what we are doing now and how we'll continue forward? I tend to believe that there is nothing on this planet or universe that doesn't have an ending so why waste the small time we have in life on something that in all probability won't really affect us (or we have no control over to change).
I guess it's just human curiosity to know why we are here and where we came from. Just ask Bronowski.
There was an interesting question that was answered though. Will we ever travel forward and backward into time? His answer was simple (as I've found most answers to be). We are traveling into the future as we speak. To travel back in time we would generate so much radiation to do it that it would destroy the universe anyways. I also liked the idea that there is a trace amount of radiation still lingering from our beginnings and it can be seen when you watch the noisy snow on TV. Neat.
November 14 Fresh Laundry. Free Smells! We have a washer/dryer...slightly dented but who cares! Just wanted to let everyone know that our clothes no longer contain a history of the month. November 09 No Sweeny Todd near my floors!in true comedy error style my husband and i ended up running late to the wrong theater at the wrong time. thank goodness my brother called and told us that he was seeing Sweeny Todd at the right time and the right theater or we might have missed it. it was a killer show to say the least. my favorite was the song about Lovettes meatpies.
On another happy note: we have new floors in the upstairs of our house. We're half way to finishing our remodel. Next up: jaime's kicking tuscan kitchen. November 08 Bad Remodelers...BADi have realized why the Attorney General has stated that contractors are the biggest consumer issue. We went to get a quote to update our kitchen and spent hours with the designer and hours researching. In the end, the designer ignored all of our comments and quoted us more than 4x the money we told her we were willing to pay. What's worse is that she decided that we weren't worth her time when she found we wouldn't spend that much on a remodel. How do these people stay in business? I then called the store and told them the complaint. I'm still waiting for a call back which I don’t think will happen. October 27 Sick. Sick. House.Well, it's been a long time since my last blog. Let's catch you all up:
Went to a wedding in O'Canada. Got an infection and ended up sick. Took some anitbiotics and found i was allergic. Took some more antibiotics and alergic again. Took even more anitbiotics...alergic allergic allergic. After a covert mission across the border I ended up in a Detroit hospital next to a lady named Mrs. Beasely who thought my husband was a small animal. In the end, the ferries sprinkled cinamon on me and I was magically cured.
After that fun incident my husband Rob decided to do some fancy footwork in hockey. Turns out his foot didn't go with him. He not only broke it he dislocated it. 6 pins, 1 plate, and 3 months later my baby was able to drive a car agina and feel normal.
Then our apartment flooded signaling us to move on. So we did what anyone else would do. We bought a house. Which works out for us since we have recently added to our Seattle family...my brother and cousin both just moved out here.
Ok, off to update my photo album. l8r-J August 04 New Movies coming out!OMG! I dragged my friend Steph to (what turned out to be) a cute movie the other day called Sky High. If you like Bruce Campbel and Kids in the Hall then you'll find this movie awesome. The trailers were the best though. Here are the 3 that I can't wait to see:
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe: http://adisney.go.com/disneypictures/narnia/index.html?deeplink=production (12/09/05)
Chicken Little: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/chickenlittle/ (11/04/05)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/gobletoffire/ (11/05 @ IMAX!)
December 18 Mike likes pie. Here are my thoughts over the last few days: I think that it was in poor taste that Trump indirectly made Jen look worthless. I still think that it was the right choice to choose Kelly fr the Apprentice but still not nessessary to end the show that way. I think that Mike should learn how to run faster when trying to pull a prank on friends. Needless to say ... I'll never eat that pie. I think that Christmas shopping is going to kill me. I think that the Fairmont Olympic Hotel was the greatest place for our work Christmas party. I had a good time and the food rocked. I think it stinks that I can't talk to my brother about work ... considering he's now my competitor. I think my brother owes my a double Christmas gift because he cheaped out on my birthday. December 15 Our Kitten is one tail too short!Last evening was SO much fun. I was sitting in the living room when I heard my husband yell "Oh NO!" I had no idea what was going on until our 6mo old kitten Skippy ran into the room waving around a limp tail and Rob came running in after with the tip of the tail in his hand! Turns out that my husband shut the bathroom door on Skippy's tail. Ick. So to make a long story short, we were in the emergency room all night and Skippy went into surgery to get his tail tied up. They gave Skippy some drugs before hand and he was pretty happy. I'm happy he's ok now. December 14 Painting my bathroomwe had someone come in to paint our bathroom...can I tell you how much it stinks to only have one bathroom and it's out of commission for 2 hours. <pg13> I'm regretting all the tea that I drank this morning. </pg13> Let's hope for something more exciting to happen today. If not, that's all the blog you get this rainy Tuesday. December 13 My First Blog MSG!Today I've played around with the MSN Spaces. I like it! I'm having fun ... but then again those of you who know me know that I have fun at most things I do. I even have fun when I'm cleaning. Dusting should be an Olympic sport. I wonder if I could be a judge ... Anyways, I hope that you enjoy my MSN Space. Stay tune for more random glimpses into Jaime's mind ... it's a dark and scary place up there but happy :P P.s. I think I'll get a webcam and add a picture of me each time I blog ... |
